Vaccination: Cat vaccinations can start at 8 weeks of age. We recommend a course of F3 and FIV. F3 covers Feline Panleucopenia virus, Feline Herpesvirus and Feline Calicivirus while FIV covers Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. For both F3 and FIV a booster will be required 4 weeks after initial shot and FIV will require a third booster in a furhter 3 weeks.
Worming: Kittens require to be wormed at 6, 8 and 12 weeks of age then every 3 months.
Microchipping: Before you purchase your kitten it should already be microchipped or should be done by 12 weeks of age according to the NSW state law. Your kitten will then need to be registered with your local Council by 6 months of age. It is also required by law, when in a public place, to have a collar and tag attached that shows the cat's name and contact details. We do have a range of Red Dingo tags available.
Desexing: Your kitten can be neutered from 4-6months of age and only requires day surgery where your kitten will be admitted in the morning (between 8:30am and 9:00am) with the owner withholding food and water from at least midnight the night before. After admittance, all animals are examined for general health, and specifically to assess anaesthetic risks. Animals are discharged after 4pm unless prior arrangements are made. Your female kitten will than need to return 7-10 days after surgery to remove stitches. However males do not require sutures and therefore will not need to return.
Flea products: Fleas are always a big issue in the warmer months and can be managed by using a suitable flea product for your kitten such as Frontline, Revolution, Advocate or Advantage. Most flea products can be used from 8-9 weeks of age with Frontline spray able to be used from 2 days old. See our Products page for more information on the products . Litter Training: Place the litter box in a quiet corner. When the kitten looks as if it is ready to use it -it will crouch with its tail raised - place it in the litter box. A natural instinct will tell the kitten to cover up it faeces with the litter.
Grooming: Depending on the type of coat your kitten has will depend on the amount of grooming required. Start as early as possible to get your kitten use to it. If your kitten has a short coat, a comb suitable will be a short bristle or grooming mitt with short soft rubber bristle-like teeth. If your cat has a long coat a brush or comb with longer teeth is required to be able to get through the fur.
